The policy adopted by Mizzou indicates which tools may be used with which Data Classification Level (DCL). In most cases, DCL 1 is allowed—public data. In most cases, DCL 2 is not allowed. DCL 2 includes unpublished research. Uploading unpublished research into an unapproved GenAI tool may constitute public disclosure and restrict your ability to publish your research.

Missouri S&T is developing a hosted AI chatbot based on open-source models and an innovative resource sharing approach. This research project is led by Dr. Seung-Jong (Jay) Park, Kummer Endowed Professor and Chair, Computer Science Department. The video demonstrates early results and indicates the capabilities that are anticipated. When complete, the chatbot will be released for the campus community to use. Being captive to the campus, the in-house chatbot will be able to process more sensitive information, at least DCL 2 and possibly higher.
